Reggae Pon Top: An Unforgettable Evening at The Jago Dalston

This past weekend, The Jago Dalston turned into a pulsating hub for reggae music, providing exciting  energy with the spectacular event, “REGGAE PON TOP”!

Enthusiasts of the genre came together to celebrate the inauguration of  a remarkable evening,  featuring outstanding performances from some of the finest talents in UK reggae.

The evening commenced with the smooth and mysterious vocals of Gaven Creary, the frontman of Black Slate. He enchanted the crowd with a heartfelt reggae version  of the classic song “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” originally sung by rock band The Clash. That was merely a preview of what lay ahead. Gaven demonstrated his songwriting skills with two of his latest r n’ b tracks: “You Don’t Have To”, and “Reality” leaving the audition in awe of  his musical composition abilities and undeniable artistry. Vocally he coaxed and caressed the audience, taking them with him as soared to the high notes.

Following him was Kirk Welsh, widely known as Jah Kirk, who presented the Roots Reggae Rock Experience, backed by the band. His strong, fiery performance of three songs: the militant “One By  One”, and “Boomdraw”  set the roaring crowd ablaze;, from the back all one could see was a sea of raised arms in the air!  Kirk then showed his romantic side with ballad “Can I?” locking everyone in and building anticipation for the evening's headliner.

Then she came:  Sabrina Diva, a true powerhouse. Despite her small frame, her vocal strength filled the venue as she delivered a staggering 11 song set, gyrating and dancing, with impressive vocal control and ability. 99% of the songs were originals, written and arranged  by Sabrina herself who carried the audience on what can only be described as a reggae Tsunami! She teased and tantalised the everyone, with songs like “Shady” and “Key To Your Heart”. By the time she covered the legendary  Dawn Penn’s “No No No” every listener was dancing and singing with all their might.

From the sly, sexy looks and the knowing smile, Sabrina was indeed the Diva! As she raised her arms, whilst swaying her hips to the music, this artist was the queen of the stage, leaving the audience entranced. Her performance was a showcase of energy and fervour, confirming that she is a formidable presence in the reggae community.

Lastly, but by no means least, The Delroy Murray Band played a crucial role in the evening, offering a tight and polished musical backdrop that beautifully complemented the artists. Their collaboration with the performers enriched the entire experience, creating a harmonious blend of sound that resonated with every guest. Very well done to Delroy Murray (bass), Fagan (drums), David (keys), Brandon (guitar).

The team at The Jago also warrants special recognition. Their professionalism, promptness and outstanding customer service ensured that everything flowed smoothly,  contributing to the overall enjoyment of the event.

The inaugural “REGGAE PON TOP” has set a high standard for future gatherings;  if the  evening was any indication, we can anticipate even more exhilarating performances on the horizon.

Stay tuned for the forthcoming video highlights of the event, capturing the spirit of a remarkable night filled with rhythm, soul, and authentic reggae vibes! Long to be remembered. Sabrina Diva,  we salute you!
